탐험가들의 철저한 준비 :
위험하기 짝이 없는 원정에 나서기 위해 시간을 들여 준비하는 게 당연히 해야 할 일처럼 보이지만 놀랍게도 꽤 많은 사람들이 이 과정을 건너뛴다. 등반이라면 나도 남부럽지 않게 해봤는데 눈 속에서 죽음을 맞은 탐험가들의 끔찍한 사연이 들려올 때마다 알고 보면 필수 장비를 준비하지 않았거나 기상 정보를 제대로 확인하지 않았기 때문인 경우가 많다.

그 가운데 다섯은 어리석고 다섯은 슬기로웠다. 어리석은 처녀들은 등은 가지고 있었지만 기름은 가지고 있지 않았다. 그러나 슬기로운 처녀들은 등과 함께 기름도 그릇에 담아 가지고 있었다. 신랑이 늦어지자 처녀들은 모두 졸다가 잠이 들었다. 그런데 한밤중에 외치는 소리가 났다.
‘신랑이 온다. 신랑을 맞으러 나가라.’
